ROMANS 11-16 (with Strong’s numbers)
Romans 11: But I ask, has Yehovah’ cast off His people? Absolutely not. For I am also of Israel, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 Yehovah has not cast off the people that He predestined. Dont you know what the Scriptures says about Elijah? He complained to Yehovah against Israel, and said: 3 Yehovah*, they have killed your prophets, and have demolished your altars. I am the only one left; and they are searching for me, demanding my life. 4 But what was the Divine response? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed their knees, and worshipped Baal!” 5 Likewise, at the present time, a remnant is preserved, selected by *merciful kindness*. 6 But if by merciful kindness, it is not by works; otherwise, merciful kindness is not merciful kindness. And if by works, it is not by merciful kindness: Otherwise, work is not work. 7 What then? Israel didnt obtain what she sought; but the Select* [1589] obtained it; and the rest of them *had calloused minds* [4456]: 8 As it is written: “Yehovah granted* [1325] them *insensible minds*, eyes that wont see, and ears that wont hear, to this very day. 9 Again, David said: “Let their table become a snare and a trap for them; what they are due. 10 Darken their eyes, so that they cant see; and let their back always be bowed down under a yoke [4781]. 11 But I ask, have they stumbled into condemnation* [4098]? Certainly not. Rather, by their stumbling, salvation* [1] has come to every ethnicity* [1484, ethnos], to make them zealous*. 12 If their stumbling resulted in abundance for the world, and their loss*, abundance for the Nations* [ethnos]; how much more their completeness? 13 But it is to those of you of other Nations that I am speaking; as I am a herald to the Nations, yet I honor my ministry; 14 so that if by any means I might provoke to rivalry* some of my own race*, and save some of them. 15 For if their rejection has resulted in a reconciliation of the world; what will their *reception into the Kingdom of Yehovah* [4356] be, but life from the dead? 16 For, if the firstfruits are holy, then the rest are also: and if the root is holy, then the branches are also. 17 If some of the branches were broken off; and you, an olive from the desert, were grafted in among the others, and have been intertwined* with the olive tree and nourished by the roots; 18 dont ridicule* [2620] the branches. For if you *ridicule them*, you dont sustain the root, but the root sustains you. 19 Should you say, “Branches were broken off, so that I could be grafted into their place”. 20 Certainly, they were broken off, because they didnt believe; and you *have been established*. But dont be arrogant, rather fear. 21 For if Yehovah didnt spare the natural branches, perhaps he wont spare you. 22 Consider the kindness* and the severity of Yehovah; on those who fell—severity; but on you, kindness, if you continue in His kindness; but if not, you will also be broken off. 23 They also, if they cease their unfaithfulness, yes, they too will be grafted in again; for Yehovah is able to graft them back in. 24 For if you were plucked from a wild olive tree, that was natural to you, and were grafted, contrary to your nature, into a garden olive tree; how much more might they be grafted back into their own olive tree? 25 Brethren, so that you wont be presumptuous*, I want you to know this hidden mystery; that mental blindness has in some measure happened to Israel, until the *completion of the time* [4138] of the Nations has occurred; 26 and then, all Israel will be rescued* [4982]. As it is written: “A deliverer will come from Zion, and will remove the ungodliness of Jacob”. 27 They will have a covenant with Me again, as soon as I have forgiven their sins. 28 Now concerning the *Good News*, they are enemies for your sake; but in the selection, they are beloved for the patriarchs’ sake. 29 For Yehovah will not withdraw His *divine gifts* [5486] or His calling. 30 Just as you had not believed Yehovah, but have received a pardon* [1653], due to the unbelief of the Jews; 31 in a similar way, for those who presently do not believe in the pardoning that you have, there will be a pardoning for them as well. 32 For Yehovah considers everyone *to be caught in the same net* [4788] of unbelief, so that He can have mercy on everyone. 33 O the depth of the riches, and the wisdom, and the knowledge of Yehovah! For no one can secondguess [419] His judgments; His course of conduct cant be determined. 34 For who has known the mind of the Yehovah? Or who has been His counselor? 35 Or who has given something to Him prior to receiving something from Him? 36 Because everything is from Him, and by Him, and thru Him. Praise and blessing are His forever and ever. Amen.
[1] Unlike Hebrew and Greek, Aramaic really doesnt have a word for “salvation”. “Life” is as close as can be had. Physical salvage can be had now. Spiritual “salvation” will have to wait for the resurrection.
Romans 12: I implore you brethren, by the compassion of Yehovah, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to Yehovah, as a logical* [3050, logikos] sacred* service. 2 Dont conform to this world; but you be transformed, by the renovation of your minds; so that you can discern what is genuinely* the good and acceptable and complete* will of Yehovah. 3 By the *merciful kindness* given to me, I tell everyone not to consider yourselves wiser than you really are; but to have a *moderate estimation of yourselves* [4993], because Yehovah has distributed to everyone a measure of faith. 4 For there are many members in one body, and none of those members have the same function. 5 Similarly, we who are collectively many people, are one body in the Messiah, and are naturally members of each other. 6 But we have different gifts, according to the merciful kindness given to us. Some *speak under divine inspiration* [4394], in proportion* [356] to their faith. 7 Others offer *various services* [1248, diakonia], in their ministry. Some who explain doctrine*, have a gift in doctrine. 8 Others comfort and encourage persuasively; others give in sincerity; others are diligent moderators* [1]; others provide aid with cheerfulness. 9 Let your love be unfeigned*; but hate wicked things, and hold tightly to good things. 10 Show each other *loving affection*, *brotherly love* [5360, Philadelphia]. In honor *lead each other* [4285] reciprocally* [240]. 11 Dont be slow in your accomplishments. Be fervent in spirit, yielding to the Master. 12 Be joyful in your hope. Be patient, enduring distress. Persevere in prayer. 13 Fellowship together concerning the needs of the Saints. Show hospitality. 14 Bless your persecutors; bless, dont curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; cry with those who cry. 16 Dont value yourselves more than your brethren. Dont seek to be honored; rather, associate with the humble. And dont be someone who tries to appear *wise or intelligent* [5429]. 17 Dont repay anyone evil for evil; provide good things in the presence of everyone. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with everyone. 19 Dont do your own avenging, my beloved; but set aside your vengeance. For it is written: “If you dont carry out vengeance for yourself, I will avenge you”, says Yehovah. 20 If your adversary is hungry, feed him; and if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For if you do these things for him, you’ll heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Dont be overcome by evil; but overcome evil with good.
[1] Strong’s 4291, a compound Greek word that literally means: “before” & “to cause or make to stand” ie “in the presence of others, in the midst, before judges, before members of the Sanhedrin” —OBGL.
Romans 13: Everyone should cooperate with the authorized governmental powers. For there is no authority that is not from Yehovah. The authorities that exist are appointed by Yehovah. 2 So whoever opposes the authority, opposes Yehovah’s arrangements; and anyone who opposes them will receive judgment. 3 For judges arent dreaded by those of good behavior, but rather evil behavior. If you dont want to be afraid of their authority, do good and they’ll commend you. 4 For he is the deacon* [1] of Yehovah for your good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he is not wearing a sword in vain; for he is a deacon of Yehovah, and a punishing avenger for those who commit crimes. 5 So it is necessary for us to be obedient, not only to avoid punishment, but also for the sake of our consciences. 6 This is why you pay annual taxes; for they are the *public ministers* [3011] of Yehovah who attend to these things. 7 So give to everyone what is due to them; tax-money to who tax-money is due; and excise to who excise is due; and fear to who fear is due; and honor to who honor is due. 8 Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another. For he who loves his neighbor, has fulfilled the Law. 9 For it says: “You will not murder; nor commit adultery; nor steal; nor covet” [2]. If there is any other Commandment, it is completed in this declaration, “You will love your neighbor as yourself”. 10 Love does no evil to one’s neighbor; because love is a fulfilling of the Law. 11 Also, be aware that it is the *point in time* that we should awaken from our sleep. For our salvation* is nearer to us, than when we first believed. 12 The night is passing away, and the day is near. So let’s throw aside the works of darkness; and let’s put on the armor of light. 13 Let’s walk decently, as in daylight; not carousing, nor in drunkenness, nor in bed* [2845] hopping*, nor in envy and strife. 14 But clothe yourselves with our Master Yeshua the Messiah; and dont be preoccupied with mortal* [4561] indulgences.
[1] The word occasionally translated as “deacon” (1249, diakonos) in other versions is a generic term for “servant”. It refers to private servants, royal servants, Paul and even Yeshua! In this version, Strong’s 1249 is consistently rendered as “deacon” to help illustrate the fallacy of hierarchical terminology.
[2] Matthew 19:16-19
Romans 14: Assist anyone weak in the faith; reach out your hand. And dont be hesitant* to show good discernment. 2 For one person believes that he can eat any food; while another who is sick*, eats vegetarian. 3 The one who eats meat shouldnt despise the one who doesnt eat meat; and the one who doesnt eat meat, shouldnt judge the one who eats meat, for Yehovah also leads him. 4 Who are you, that you judge another man’s servant; who, if he stands, he stands to his Master; and if he falls, he falls to his Master? But he will assuredly stand; for his Master has the ability to establish him. 5 One person chooses* [2919] one particular day; and another chooses* any day. But let everyone be sure, in regard to his knowledge. 6 The one who has an understanding* [5426] about a day, understands it for his Master; and the one who doesnt have that understanding about a day, for his Master, he doesnt understand it. And the one who eats, eats to his Master, and gives thanks to Yehovah; and the one who doesnt eat, to his Master he doesnt eat, and gives thanks to Yehovah. 7 For there is not one of us who lives to himself; and there is not one, who dies to himself. 8 Because if we live, we live for our Master; and if we die, we die for our Master. So whether we live, or whether we die, we are our Master’s. 9 For this reason our Messiah died, came back to life, and arose; so that he could be Master of the dead and of the living! 10 But you, why do you judge your brother? Or, why do you consider your brother to be worthless* [1848]? For we must all stand before the judgment seat of the Messiah. 11 As it is written: “As I live, says Yehovah, every knee will bow to Me; and every tongue will praise Me”. 12 So then, each of us must give *a defence* [3056, 2d] of himself before Yehovah. 13 From now on, dont judge each other; but rather decide to never set out a stumbling-block for your brother. 14 I know and have been convinced by the Master Yeshua, that there is nothing common [1] in itself; but anyone who thinks something is common* [2839], for them it is common*. 15 But if your brother is offended over meat* [1033], you arent conducting yourself in *brotherly love* [26, agape]. Dont destroy anyone for who the Messiah died, over meat. 16 And dont allow your fidelity* [18] to be matter of reproach. 17 For the Kingdom of Yehovah, isnt about food and drink; it’s about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For anyone who serves the Messiah in these things, is pleasing to Yehovah, and is considered to be genuine* [1384] by men. 19 Now let’s earnestly pursue peace, and the things that build* [3619] each other up. 20 Dont destroy the work of Yehovah for meat; for *all kinds of things* [3956] are pure; yet it is destructive* for anyone who eats if they stumble. 21 It would be better never to eat *the flesh of a sacrificial animal* [2907], nor drink wine, than to do anything that would cause a brother to stumble [2]. 22 Do you have a controversial belief? *Hold onto the *agitating emotional possession* [2192,1a] by yourself, before Yehovah. [3] Anyone who doesnt condemn himself will be blessed, in the things that he *proves to be genuine* [1381]. 23 For anyone who is doubtful, but eats anyway is condemned; because he does not eat in faith; for everything that is not done from faith is sin.
[1] “Common” means sacrificed to idols or even handled or sold by “Gentiles”. “Unclean”, a related topic, has to do with Leviticus 11.
[2] The Greek adds: “or offends or makes weak”.
[3] On the other hand, should someone ask: “Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you for an explanation* about the expectation* [1680] of your faith, with gentleness* [4240] and respect.”. (1 Peter 3:15)
Romans 15: We then who are strong should bear the weaknesses of the weak, and not strive* to please ourselves. 2 Each of us should please his neighbor, in good things, *promoting mutual growth* [3619]. 3 Because the Messiah didnt please Himself either; but, as it is written: “The assaults of your assailants fell on Me”. 4 For everything previously written, was written for our doctrine* [1]; so that we, by patience and by the consolation of the Scriptures, can have *confident expectations*. 5 May the God of patience and of consolation, grant to you harmony with each another, in Yeshua the Messiah; 6 so that with unity* [3661] and one voice, you may honor* Yehovah, the Father of our Master Yeshua the Messiah. 7 So befriend each other, as the Messiah befriended you, to the magnificence of Yehovah. 8 Now I say, that Yeshua the Messiah was a deacon* [1249, diakonos] to the circumcision, in behalf of the truth of Yehovah, in order to confirm the promise made to the fathers. 9 So every nation can praise Yehovah for His mercies toward them, as it is written, “I will confess you among all nations, and I will sing psalms to your name”. 10 Again he said, “Every nation, rejoice with His people”. 11 Again he said, “Every nation, praise the Master; and every nation laud Him”. 12 Again Isaiah said: “There will be an offspring of Jesse; He will arise and rule every nation; and every nation will trust Him”. 13 Now may the God of our expectation fill you with all joy and peace, by faith; so that you will abound in expectation, by the power of the Holy Spirit. 14 Now I myself am persuaded, brethren, concerning you; that you are also filled with goodness, and are filled with all knowledge, and are able also to admonish others. 15 Yet I have written rather boldly to you, brethren, that I might remind you of the favor* that is given to me by Yehovah, 16 that I should be a *temple priest* [3011] of Yeshua the Messiah among the nations, serving the *Good News* *as a priest* [2418] of Yehovah, so that the offering presented—the nations, will be acceptable, *made holy* [37] by the Holy Spirit. 17 So I have the honor* from Yeshua the Messiah, before Yehovah. 18 Yet I can scarcely speak of anything done for the obedience of the Nations that the Messiah has not done by me, in word and in deeds, 19 thru powerful signs and wonders, and by the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem I have been all around as far as Illyricum, and have fully brought the Good News of the Messiah; 20 while I was careful not to bring the *Good News* where the name of Messiah had been spoken, so as not to build on another man’s foundation; 21 but, as it is written: “Those who had not heard mention of Him will see Him; and those who had not heard will become obedient”. 22 Because of this, I have been prevented from coming to you many times. 23 But now, since I have no opportunity* in these regions, and because I have for many years wanted to come to you, 24 when I go to Spain, I hope to come and see you; and that you’ll escort me there, when I will have been satisfied, in some measure, with visiting you. 25 But I am now going to Jerusalem, to serve* [1247, diakoneo] the Saints there. 26 For the brethren of Macedonia and Achaia have been willing to make a contribution for the needy Saints who are in Jerusalem. 27 They were willing, because they were indebted to them; for if the nations have *come into fellowship* with them in the Spirit, they are indebted to serve them also in material things. 28 So after I will have accomplished this, and have confirmed* this work for them, I will pass by you into Spain. 29 I know that when I come to you, I will come with the abundant blessing of the *Good News* of the Messiah. 30 I call on you, brethren, by our Master Yeshua the Messiah, and by the love of the Spirit, that you strive with me in prayers to Yehovah on my behalf; 31 that I may be delivered from those in Judea, who are disobedient and that the assistance that I carry to the Saints in Jerusalem, may be well received; 32 and that, by the good will of Yehovah, I can come to you with joy, and be mutually refreshed. 33 May the peace of Yehovah be with you all. Amen.
[1] The KJV translates “didaskalia”, Strong’s 1319, as “doctrine” 19 of 21 times. There is no reason to deviate here.
Romans 16: I commend to you Phebe, our sister, a deacon [1249, diakonos] of the Assembly in Cenchrea: 2 that you will receive her in our Master, in a manner worthy of the Saints; and that you may assist her, with anything she might ask of you; for she has assisted so many, and me as well. 3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow laborers in Yeshua the Messiah; 4 who have risked their own necks for me; and to whom, not only am I grateful, but also all of the Assemblies of the other nations. 5 Give my greeting to the Assembly in their house. Greet my beloved Epenetus, who was the firstfruits of Achaia in the Messiah. 6 Greet Mary, who has toiled so much with you. 7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives, who were in captivity with me, and are well known by the emissaries*, and were in the Messiah before me. 8 Greet Amplias, my beloved in our Master. 9 Greet Urbanus, a laborer with us in the Messiah; and my beloved Stachys. 10 Greet Apelles, approved by our Master. Greet the members of the house of Aristobulus. 11 Greet Herodion, my kinsman. Greet the members of the house of Narcissus, who are in our Master. 12 Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, who toil in our Master. Greet my beloved Persis, who toiled greatly in our Master. 13 Greet Rufus, chosen in our Master; and his and my mother. 14 Greet Asyncritus, and Phlegon, and Hermas, and Patrobas, and Hermes, and the brethren who are with them. 15 Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the Saints who are with them. 16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the assemblies of the Messiah greet you. 17 I implore you, brethren, that you take note [1] of those who cause seditions* and *scandalous impediments* [4625, skandalon] among you, aside from the doctrine that you have learned, and that you avoid them. 18 For anyone who does that sort of thing doesnt serve our Master Yeshua the Messiah; rather they feed their own stomachs. By eloquently [5542] *prepared oratory* [2] [2129], they deceive the minds of the ignorant. 19 But your *obedience to true requirements* [5218] is known to everyone. So I rejoice on your behalf; and I would have you be *as skilled as a Greek orator* [sophos, 4680] concerning good, and blameless concerning evil. 20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The *merciful kindness* of our Master Yeshua the Messiah, be with you. 21 Timothy, my fellow laborer, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, greet you. 22 I Tertius, who have written this letter, greet you in the Master. 23 Gaius, hospitable to me and to all the Assembly, I greet you. Erastus, the steward of the city, and Quartus a brother, I greet you. [A] 25 Now to Yehovah, who is able to establish you, according to my *Good News* that is heralded concerning Yeshua the Messiah; and according to the revelation of the mystery that was hidden thruout all time past, 26 but is at this time revealed by means of the Scriptures of the prophets; and by the command of the eternal God, is made known to all other nations, for the obedience of faith. 27 Praise belongs to the only One who is wise, thru Yeshua the Messiah, forever and ever: Amen. 24 The *merciful kindness* of our Master Yeshua the Messiah, be with you all; Amen.*
End of the letter to the Romans; that was written from Corinth; and sent by Phebe, a faithful servant.
[1] KJV says “mark”.
[2] Listening to eloquent public orators was a popular form of entertainment in Greek culture. These celebrities were well paid. Constantine made professional oratory the norm, as a way to increase the attendance in the massive church buildings that he built, replacing interactivity. Sophistry became known as giving “sermons”. Sermons later fell out of use, under Catholicism, until the Protestant Reformation.
[A] In the Aramaic, the 24th verse is placed at the end of the letter.
