Introduction

1 Corinthians 11: Imitate me, just as I imitate the Messiah. 2 Now I commend you brothers, that you are mindful of me in everything, and that you retain the instructions* [3862] as I delivered them to you. 3 I want you to know, that the head of every man is the Messiah, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of the Messiah is Yehovah. 4 Every man who prays or *speaks under inspiration* [4395] with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 Every woman, who prays or *speaks under inspiration* with her head uncovered, dishonors her head; for she is just like someone whose head is shaved. 6 For if a woman isnt veiled [2619] [see v.15], she should be sheared; but if it is shameful for a woman to be sheared or shaved, let her be veiled. 7 Indeed, the man should not veil his head, because he is in the image and magnificence of Yehovah; but the woman is the magnificence of the man. 8 For the man didnt come from the woman, but the woman from the man. 9 Nor was the man created for the woman’s sake, but the woman for the man’s sake. 10 For this reason* a woman should have *the power of choice* [1849] over her head, because of the holy Messengers. 11 Nevertheless, the man is not independent of the woman, nor the woman independent of the man, in our Master. 12 For as the woman was from a man, so men are here because of women; and everything is from Yehovah. 13 Judge for yourselves; is it becoming, for a woman to pray to Yehovah with her head unveiled* [177]? 14 Doesnt nature teach you that if a man’s hair grows long, it dishonors him? 15 But for a woman, if her hair is long*, it is magnificent; for her hair is given to her for a veil* [4018]. 16 But if anyone wants to dispute these things, we dont have an established custom, nor does the Assembly of Yehovah. 17 This *message that I transmit to you*, is not to praise you; for you have not made any progress, but have become worse. 18 First of all, when you gather* together as an Assembly, I hear that there you are divided; and *this is destined to happen* [3313]. 19 For of necessity there must be sects* [139] among you, so that the genuine* [1384] can be distinguished [5318] from the counterfeit* [1384] among you. 20 When you assemble yourselves together, you eat and drink inappropriately for the Messiah’s Supper. 21 Because some of you eat ahead of the others—one is hungry, another is drunk. 22 What! Dont you have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the Assembly of Yehovah’, and shame those who have nothing? What should I tell you? Should I commend you? In this I certainly dont commend you. 23 For I have received from our Master the same thing that I relayed to you; that our Master Yeshua, on the night He was betrayed, took *ordinary bread* [1], 24 and blessed, and broke it, and said, “Take this and eat it; this is My body that is broken for you; do this to remember Me by”. 25 So, after they had eaten it, He then took the cup, and said; “This cup is the New Testament in My blood; so do this, as often as you drink it, to remember Me by”. 26 For as often as you eat this bread, and drink from this cup, you commemorate the death of our Master, UNTIL He returns [2]. 27 So anyone who eats the Master’s bread, and drinks from His cup, who is not worthy of it, is guilty of the blood of the Master, and of His body. 28 “But scrutinize* yourselves! [1381] *Each of you* [444] should *scrutinize your own genuineness* [1381], and then eat this bread, and drink from this cup; 29 for anyone who eats and drinks from it, if he is unworthy, eats and drinks condemnation on themselves, by not discerning the Master’s body. 30 For this reason, many among you are diseased and sickly, and many have died. 31 For if we *learn to discriminate in these disputes* [1252] for ourselves [1438], we will not face judgment [2919]. 32 But when we are judged by our Master, we are really chastised, so that we wont be condemned with the world. 33 So brothers, when you assemble to eat, wait for each other. 34 Anyone who is hungry should eat at home; so that you wont assemble for condemnation. As for the other issues, I will resolve them when I come.

[1] This is the Greek word for ordinary leavened bread, as opposed to unleavened bread used the following night at Passover.

[2] While the “Lord’s Supper” will not be commemorated after He returns, the Passover will be celebrated, as prophesied in Ezekiel 45:21, in a millennial reign chapter, as will the Feast of Tabernacles, as prophesied in the very evident millennial chapter of Zechariah 14, verses 16-21 in particular. See Did the “Lord’s Supper” Replace the Passover?

1 Corinthians 12: Concerning spiritual gifts, my brothers, I want you to know, 2 that you have been heathens*. Without exception you were being *led to punishment* [520] by speechless idols. 3 I want to let it be known that no one speaking by the Spirit of Yehovah says, “Yeshua is accursed”: neither can anyone say that Yeshua is the Master, except by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are *different gifts for different people* [1243]; but only one Spirit. 5 There are different ways of serving* [1248, diakonia]; but only one Master. 6 There are distinctive types of work* [1755]; but one God produces everything in everyone. 7 Everyone of us has *seen the results* [5321] of the Spirit, *bringing it all together* [4851]. 8 To one the Spirit gives wisdom in their speech; and to another, the same Spirit gives knowledgable speech; 9 to another, the same Spirit gives faith; to another the same Spirit gives the gift of healing; 10 and to another, miracles; another *reveals hidden things* [4394]; another can distinguish between spirits, another speaks various languages; and another, can interpret languages. 11 But one Spirit does all of these things and it* distributes to everyone as it* determines. 12 For as a body has many parts, and all of the many parts of the body still form a single body, so it is with the Messiah. 13 Similarly, all of us have been immersed* into one body by one Spirit, whether Jews or Greeks*, whether slaves or free; and we were all allowed a drink into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one part, but many. 15 For if the foot says, “Because I am not the hand, I am not part of the body”; is it, because of that, not part of the body? 16 Or if the ear says, “Because I am not the eye, I am not part of the body; is it, because of that, not part of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, how would it hear? Or if it were all ears, how could it smell? 18 But presently, Yehovah has placed every part of the body where He wants it. 19 If we were all one part, how could we have a body? 20 But now we are many parts, but still one body. 21 The eye cant say to the hand, you arent needed; nor can the head say to the feet, you arent needed [1]. 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable. 23 The parts of the body that we consider to be less elegant—on those we give more honor, and the “less attractive parts” are really more attractive. 24 For the shapely* [2158] members in us, have no need of honor; for Yehovah has *created a structure* [4786], a body, and given more honor to the part that is “inferior”; 25 so that there would be no fractures* in the body, but that every part would be cared for in harmony*. 26 This way, when one part is in pain, every member [3196] sympathizes; and if another part is praised, every part is praised. 27 Now you are the body of the Messiah; each member is *one of the constituent parts of a whole* [3313]. 28 For Yehovah has placed in His Assembly, first, heralds*; after them, *inspired interpreters of the Scriptures* [4396]; after them, teachers; then miracle workers; after them, some with the gift of healing, helpers, leaders [2941] [2], and those who speak the languages* of various nations* [1085]. 29 Are they all heralds*? Are they all *inspired interpreters of the Scriptures*? Are they all teachers? Are they all miracle workers? 30 Do they all have the gift of healing? Do they all speak in *various languages*? Or do they all interpret? 31 On the other hand, if you want to pursue the superior gifts, I’ll show you a more excellent way.

[1] When a “minister” disfellowships a “hand” or a “foot”, could that “minister” be a part of the body?

[2] If this is a pecking order then “leaders” are way down the list.

1 Corinthians 13: If I could speak in every language of humanity, and of the holy Messengers, but didnt have love, I would be like resounding brass, or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I were to have the gift of *divine inspiration* [4394], and if I understood every mystery, and knew everything; and if I had all faith, so that I could move mountains, but lacked love, I would be nothing. 3 If I were to donate everything I owned to feed the poor; and if I were to allow my body to be set on fire as a martyr; but lacked love, it would not be advantageous at all! 4 Love perseveres patiently*, and is kind; love doesnt *burn with envy*; love doesnt boast; it’s not conceited; 5 and doesnt act unbecomingly; doesnt seek its own way; it’s not *easily provoked*; and doesnt have a *bad nature*. 6 It finds no pleasure in Torah*-lessness, but *rejoices with others* [4796] in the truth; 7 it *endures every threat* [4722], and *is persuaded of every conviction* [4100], with limitless hope and perseverance. 8 Love will never end. But prophesying will come to an end [2673]; and language* will *no longer stir us* [3973]; and knowledge will *no longer influence us* [2673]. 9 For we only have limited knowledge; and our *divinely inspired revelation* [4395] is limited. 10 But when perfection is established, then imperfection will be obsolete [2673]. 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, and I reasoned as a child, and I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I was finished with the things of childhood. 12 We now see as if in a hazy mirror; but in the future we will see Them face to face. Presently what I know is incomplete; but in the future I’ll have *thoro knowledge* [1921], just as Yehovah has thoro knowledge of me. 13 For these three things will never change: faith, hope [1], and love; but the greatest of these is love.

[1] “joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation” —OBGL

1 Corinthians 14: *Earnestly endeavor to acquire* [1377] love; and *be zealous in the pursuit* of the gifts of the Spirit, particularly *divinely inspired revelation*. 2 For anyone who speaks in a foreign language* [1100], is not talking to people, but to Yehovah; because no one understands what is said; yet in the spirit, they speak mysteries. 3 But the person who speaks under *divine inspiration*, speaks to us to *build us up*, and to *persuasively instruct* and comfort us. 4 The person who speaks in a foreign language helps himself grow; but the person who speaks under *divine inspiration*, builds the Assembly. 5 Now I wish that you all spoke foreign languages, but even more that, that you could speak under *divine inspiration*; for the person who speaks under *divine inspiration* is of greater help than the person who speaks in another language, unless there is interpretation; with interpretation the Assembly is built up. 6 Now, brothers, if I were to come to you speaking in other languages, how would I benefit you; unless I spoke to you of some *truth, new to you* [602], or advanced* knowledge, *divine inspiration*, or doctrine? 7 For even inanimate things that emit sounds, whether a pipe or a harp, if they dont make distinctive sounds, how can we determine what is being played? 8 If a trumpet produced an obscure sound, who would prepare himself for battle? 9 In a similar way, if you speak in a foreign language, without interpretation, how will anyone know what you said? You’ll just be blowing* [109] into the air. 10 Of course there are many kinds of languages in the world; and none of them are insignificant. 11 But if I dont understand the language, I’ll be a barbarian to the speaker, and the speaker will be a barbarian [915] to me. 12 In the same way, since you’re zealous for the spiritual gifts, to build the Assembly, strive to excel in them. 13 The person who speaks in another language should pray for the ability to translate. 14 For if I were to pray in a foreign language, my spirit would pray, but my mind wouldnt benefit. 15 So what should I do? I’ll pray with my spirit, but I’ll also pray with my mind; and I’ll sing with my spirit, but I’ll also sing psalms with my mind. 16 Otherwise, if you praise in the spirit, how anyone sitting in the room, *ordinary people* [2399], say “Amen”, on your giving of thanks; because they dont understand what you said? 17 For you are giving thanks well enough, but the other people arent benefiting. 18 I thank Yehovah, that I speak in foreign languages more than any of you. 19 But in the Assembly, I would rather speak five intelligible words, to instruct others, than ten thousand* [3463] words in a foreign language. 20 Brothers, dont be childish in your thoughts; but when it comes to evil, be like children; and in your thoughts be adults. 21 In the Torah* it says, “Foreigners will speak to this nation in another language; and they still wont listen to Me, says Yehovah”. 22 So instantaneously learning a language is a miracle* [4592], not for believers, but for unbelievers. But *inspired speaking* is not for unbelievers, but for believers. 23 So if the whole Assembly assembles, and they are all speaking with foreign* languages, and “new”* [2399] people come in, or those who dont believe, wont they say: “These people are crazy”? 24 But if you are all *speaking under divine revelation*, and “new” people or unbelievers come among you, they will be convicted after examining everything that happens. 25 What had been hidden from their minds is no longer hidden from them; then they will fall face down, and worship Yehovah, and say: “Truly, Yehovah is among you”. 26 So I tell you brothers, that when you assemble, whoever has a psalm, should speak; as well as anyone who has a doctrine [1322], and whoever has a revelation, and whoever has a foreign* language, and whoever can interpret. *Every type of thing* [3956] should be done to build us up. 27 If anyone speaks in a foreign* language, two should speak or at most, three; and they should speak in succession; and allow someone to interpret. 28 If there is no one to interpret the language, they should remain silent in the Assembly; and should speak in privacy to Yehovah. 29 As for *inspired speakers*; two to three should speak, and afterward allow the others to *render their judgment* [1]. 30 But if someone else sitting there can *disclose a point that was previously unknown* [601], then the one* [4413] [2] speaking should *be kept in silence* [4601] for a time. 31 For you can all take your turn *speaking under inspiration*; so that everyone can *learn by practice* [3129]. Everyone can *give and receive consolation and encouragement* [3870]. 32 For the *rational spirit* [4151] of *inspired speakers* [4395] *cooperates with* [5293] other *inspired speakers*. 33 Because, Yehovah is not the author of instability, but of tranquillity*, as in every Assembly of the Saints.

34 “Your women should remain silent in *public gatherings* [1577]. They are not allowed to speak out, they must be submissive, as the Roman law [3] says. 35 If women want to be informed about any subject, they should ask their husbands at home; for it is unbecoming for women to speak in a gathering” [4].

36 What! Did the truth* of Yehovah originate with you? Are you Corinthians the only people it has reached? 37 If one of you are of the opinion that you are an *interpreter of oracles*, or that you *belong to the Divine Spirit* [4152], then you should realize that the things that I write to you are the Commandments* [1785] of our Master. 38 If anyone is ignorant of this, disregard him.

39 So brothers, desire *inspired speaking*, and dont forbid anyone from speaking in foreign languages. 40 But everything should be done with decency and in regular succession.

[1] God Demands Freedom of Speech!

[2] While “protos” is usually translated as “first”, it is established in the previous verse, that there should be two to three speaking. So one of the speakers, on that particular Sabbath, would be required to “be kept in silence” if another person believed that rendering his judgment, after the person currently speaking was finished might be to late. This sounds like a course correction. Of course a “minister” giving a sermon would never allow this. Are Sermons Biblical?

[3] The Torah has no such law.

[4] Paul is quoting what he heard from a Corinthian “brother”, just before blasting the idea in verse 36. Had ancient languages had quotation marks, the controversy surrounding vs 34-35 would not exist. “The Cultural Background: The writings of Greek philosophers provide external documentation informing us of the mindset that permeated the ancient city of Corinth. In Greek society, women were clearly held in low regard. For example, Plato (424-347 BC) ascribed to the inferior status of women by stating: “It is only males who are created directly by the gods and are given souls.” Aristotle (384-322 BC) added, “women are defective by nature” because “a woman is as it were an infertile male,” and males command superior intelligence. Under existing Roman family law, the father had complete household authority. A husband could punish his wife in any way including killing her, and he could make love to other women with impunity.” Compare to 1 Corinthians 11:4.

1 Corinthians 15: Brothers, I want you to know that the *Good News* that I heralded to you, and you acknowledged, and that has established you, 2 will result in your being saved—if you hold firmly to the message I heralded to you—unless your belief was worthless. 3 For I delivered to you the primary teachings that I was given; that the Messiah died for our sins, according to the Scriptures; 4 and that He was buried, and that He was resurrected on the third day, according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas; and afterward, by the twelve. 6 After that, He was seen by more than five hundred brothers at once; many of them still alive, yet some of them have died*. 7 Then James saw Him; and later all of the other heralds*. 8 Last of all, I saw Him, as if I were born quite late. 9 I’m the least of the heralds. I’m not even worthy of being called a herald, because I persecuted the Assembly of Yehovah. 10 But by Yehovah’s *merciful kindness* I am what I am, and His *merciful kindness* toward me did not prove to be wasted; because I worked even more than all the others,—yet not I, but the *merciful kindness* of Yehovah that was with me. 11 So, whether it was I or someone else, this is what we announced and what you believed. 12 Now if we announce that the Messiah has been raised from the dead, why do some of you claim that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection* of the dead, then the Messiah has not been resurrected. 14 If the Messiah has not been resurrected, then our heralding* [2782] is worthless and your faith is worthless. 15 Also, we would even be proved to be false witnesses about Yehovah, because we testified concerning Yehovah that He raised the Messiah, if in fact the dead are not resurrected. 16 For, if the dead dont rise, then the Messiah has not risen either. 17 If the Messiah has not been raised, your faith is worthless; and you are still without hope in your sins. 18 Also, no doubt, those who have *already died* in the Messiah, have been destroyed* [622]. 19 If, in this lifetime only, our only hope is the Messiah, we are the most miserable of all humanity. 20 But now the Messiah has risen from the dead, and has become the *first person born* [1] from the dead* [2837, 2c]. 21 Since one man *brought about* death, so another man *brought about* the resurrection* of the dead. 22 For just as it was with Adam, everyone dies, so also by the Messiah, everyone will be *restored to life* [2227, 2b], 23 but everyone in their order; Messiah, the firstborn*; later* [1899], at His [2] coming, those who are the Messiah’s. 24 Then the *end of these events* [2227] comes, when He’ll have handed over the Kingdom to Yehovah the Father; when every ruler, and every government, and every powerful force* will have *been overthrown* [2673]. 25 For He must rule until [Yehovah] vanquishes* [4228] all of [Yeshua’s] enemies . 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 27 For [Yehovah] has put everything *under [Yeshua’s] command* [5293]. But when [Yehovah] said that everything is under His command*, this certainly excludes the One who authorized* Him. 28 Now when everything is *under [Yeshua’s] command*, then the Son Himself will *yield the command* to the One who authorized* Him, so that Yehovah will be all in all. 29 Otherwise, what will the people do who are immersed* *for the sake of* [5228] rising from the dead, if the dead dont rise? Why are they immersed* *for the sake of* rising from the dead? 30 And why are we continually being endangered? 31 Brothers, I *face death* daily. I affirm this by boasting of you—that is my right in our Master Yeshua the Messiah. 32 If, as people reason, I was thrown to wild animals in Ephesus [3], what would I gain if the dead dont rise? “Let’s eat and drink; for tomorrow we die”. 33 Dont be deceived; “Evil communication corrupts good minds”. 34 You should be sober minded and righteous, not wandering from righteousness. There are some of you who dont know Yehovah. I say this to your shame! 35 But someone will ask: “How are the dead raised? And what kind of body *will they return with* [2064]”? 36 Foolish man! The seed you sow wont germinate unless it dies first. 37 What you sow is not the body that will be, but a naked* [1131] seed of wheat or barley, or another grain. 38 Yehovah furnishes the body He intended. Each seed produces its own body. 39 Not every body is alike. People have one kind of body, animals have another, birds have another, and fish have yet another. 40 There are celestial and terrestrial bodies, but the splendor* of the celestial body is unique. The terrestrial *is not the same* [2087, heteros]. 41 The brightness* [1391, 3] of the sun is unique, as is the brightness* of the moon, and the stars. Each star differs from the other stars in brightness*. 42 That is how it is in the resurrection* of the dead. What is sown is perishable [5356], but what is raised *will never decay* [861]. 43 They are sown in dishonor, they rise in brightness*; they are sown in weakness, they will rise in power; 44 it is sown a physical* [5591] body, it is raised a spiritual body. For there is a physical* body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so is it written: “Adam, the first man, *came into existence* [1096] as a mortal* [2198] soul [4] [5590];” the second Adam became a spirit who restores life. 46 The spiritual is not first; but the physical*, and then the spiritual. 47 The first man came from the dust of the earth; the second man was the Master from the heavens [3772]. 48 Just as Adam’s kind* [3634] was made of earth, so the others of his kind are made of *earthly material* [5517]; and just as Yeshua’s celestial kind*, so are the others of the celestial kind [5]. 49 As we have worn the likeness of the man made of earth, we’ll also wear the likeness of the man from the heavens. 50 Brothers, I tell you that flesh and blood cant inherit the Kingdom of the Heavens, nor can the perishable inherit perpetuity* [861]. 51 See, I’ll explain to you a mystery; we’ll not all die, but we’ll all be transformed. 52 In the *smallest possible fraction of a second* [823, atomos] at the last [seventh] trumpet [6]; the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be transformed. 53 For this perishable must *be clothed with* [See v.37] the imperishable; and this mortal must must *be clothed with* [1746] immortality. 54 So when this perishable *is clothed with* the imperishable, and this mortal is clothed with immortality; then the written word will be accomplished, “Death is devoured in victory.” 55 O death, where is your sting? O Sheol, where is your victory? 56 Now the sting of death is sin; and the *moral power* [1411] of sin is the Torah*. 57 But thankfully, the *merciful kindness* of Yehovah gives us the victory, thru our Master Yeshua the Messiah. 58 So beloved brothers, be steadfast unmoveable and always abounding in the work of the Master; since you know that your *harsh work* [2873] is not in vain in the Master.

1 Corinthians 16: Concerning the *relief money* [3048] for the Saints, as I arranged [1299] for the Assemblies of the Galatians, you should prepare in the same way. 2 After* [2596] *the first of the Sabbaths*, everyone should lay aside a stockpile [2343] at home, for this *charitable journey* [2137]; so that the collecting is finished when I come. 3 Then, I will send those *you choose as being worthy* [1381], with a letter, to carry your bounty to Jerusalem. 4 If it is best that I go as well, they’ll journey with me. 5 I’ll come to you, when I travel thru Macedonia; and I will travel thru Macedonia. 6 Perhaps I’ll stay with you awhile, or winter with you, so that you can accompany me wherever I go. 7 For I have decided not to see you now, just passing thru; because I hope to spend some time with you, if Yehovah permits me. 8 But I’ll remain in Ephesus until Pentecost; 9 because a great door has opened for me that is full of opportunities; but there are many adversaries. 10 If Timothy comes to you, see that he is without worries while among you; for he does the work of the Master, just as I do. 11 No one should despise him; but send him on his journey in peace, so that he can accompany me; because I wait for him with the brothers. 12 Brothers concerning Apollos, I begged him and the brothers to visit with you; but he decided not to visit you now; but when he has an opportunity, he will visit you. 13 Watch and stand firm in the faith, be brave, be valiant. 14 Everything that you do should be done with love. 15 Brothers, I implore you concerning the household of Stephanas; (for you know, that they were the firstlings* [536] of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to serving the Saints;) 16 that you listen to [1] such people; and to anyone who labors with us and helps us. 17 I rejoice at the arrival of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus; for they have supplied what was lacking on your part. 18 They have refreshed my spirit, and yours; so acknowledge such men. 19 All the Assemblies in Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you much in the Master, as does the Assembly in their house. 20 All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. 21 This greeting is from me, Paul, in my own hand writing. 22 Whoever doesnt love our Master Yeshua the Messiah, let him be *doomed to destruction*. Our Master will come! [2] 23 The *merciful kindness* of our Master Yeshua the Messiah be with you. 24 My love be with you all, in the Messiah, Yeshua. Amen.
