1 CORINTHIANS 11-16 (with Strong’s numbers)
1 Corinthians 11-16 has not had the English modernized yet, except for occasional verses. Word processing has been done, particularly replacement of obsolete words.
1 Corinthians 11: Imitate me, as I am of the Messiah. 2 Moreover I commend you, my Brethren, that in all things you are mindful of me, and that you hold fast the precepts as I delivered them to you. 3 I would have you know, that the head of every man is the Messiah, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of the Messiah is God. 4 Every man, who prays or prophesies with his head covered, dishonors his head. 5 Every woman, who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered, dishonors her head; for she is on a level with her whose head is shaven. 6 For if a woman isnt covered, let her also be shorn; but if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7 The man, indeed, should not cover his head, because he is the likeness and praise of God: but the woman is the praise of the man. 8 For the man came* not from the woman, but the woman from the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman’s sake, but the woman for the man’s sake. 10 For this reason* a woman should have *the power of choice* [1849] over her head, because of the holy Messengers. 11 Nevertheless, the man is not without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in our Lord. 12 For as the woman was from the man, so the man is by the woman; and every thing is from God. 13 Judge for yourselves, among yourselves; is it becoming, for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Doesnt nature teach you, that in a man, if his hair grows long, it is a reproach to him? 15 But for a woman, if her hair is abundant, it glorifies her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. 16 But if anyone is contentious about these things, we on our part have no such custom, nor has the Assembly of God. 17 This which I now enjoin, is not as praising you; for you have not made progress, but have deteriorated. 18 Because, first; when you gather* in the assembly, there are, I hear, divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19 For of necessity there must be sects* [139] among you, that the genuine* [1384] may be distinguished [5318] from the counterfeit*[1384] among you. 20 When you are assembled together, you eat and drink inappropriately for the Messiah’s Supper. 21 Because one and then another goes ahead and eats his own supper; another one is hungry, and another is drunk. 22 What! Dont you have houses to eat and drink in? Or, do you despise the Assembly of Yehovah’, and shame those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? In this I dont praise you. 23 For I have received from our Master, the same thing that I relayed to you; that our Master Yeshua, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, 24 and blessed, and broke it, and said, “Take this and eat it; this is My body that is broken for your sakes; do this to remember Me by”. 25 So, after they had eaten, He also took the cup, and said; “This cup is the New Testament in My blood; so do this, as often as you drink it, to remember Me by." 26 For as often as you eat this bread, and drink from this cup, you commemorate the death of our Master, until He returns. 27 So anyone who eats of the bread of the Master, and drinks from His cup, who is not worthy of it, is guilty of the blood of the Master, and of His body. 28 “But scrutinize*! [1381] *Each individual [444] should *scrutinize their own genuineness* [1381], and then eat this bread, and drink from this cup; 29 for, whoever eats and drinks from it, while he is unworthy, eats and drinks condemnation on himself, by not discerning the body of the Master. 30 For this cause, many among you are diseased and sickly, and many have died. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged by our Master, we are really chastised, so that we wont be condemned with the world. 33 So brethren, when you assemble to eat, wait for each another. 34 Let him who is hungry, eat at home; that you may not assemble for condemnation. And as to other things, I will give you directions when I come.
1 Corinthians 12: Concerning spiritual gifts, my brethren, I would have you know, 2 that you have been pagans; and have been, without distinction, led away after idols, in which there is no speech. 3 I therefore inform you, that there is no man, that speaks by the Spirit of God, who says that Yeshua is accursed: neither can a man say that Yeshua is the Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are diverse gifts; but the Spirit is one. 5 There are diverse ministries; but the Lord is one. 6 There are diverse energies; but God, who works all in all men, is one. 7 And to each man, there is given a manifestation of the Spirit, that it may aid him. 8 To one, by the Spirit, there is given a word of wisdom; and to another, by the same Spirit, there is given a word of knowledge: 9 to another, by the same Spirit, faith: to another, by the same Spirit, gifts of healing: 10 and to another, miracles: and to another, prophecy: and to another, the discerning of spirits: and to another, diverse kinds of languages: and to another, the interpretation of languages. 11 But all these, works that one Spirit; and it* distributes to every one as it* pleases. 12 For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body; so also is the Messiah. 13 Similarly, all of us have been immersed* into one body by one Spirit, whether Jews or Greeks*, whether slaves or free; and all were given to drink into one Spirit. 14 For a body also, is not one member, but many 15 For if the foot should say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it, on that account, not of the body? 16 Or if the ear should say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it, on that account, not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? Or if it were all hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now Yehovah has placed each member in the body, just as He desired. 19 If they were all one member, where would be the body? 20 But now they are many members, yet but one body. 21 The eye cant say to the hand, you arent needed: nor can the head say to the feet, you arent needed. 22 But rather, those members which are accounted feeble, are indispensable. 23 Those which we think dishonorable in the body, on them we heap more honor; and those who are uncomely, on them we put the more decoration. 24 For the honorable members in us, have no need of honor: for God has tempered the body, and given more honor to the member which is inferior; 25 that there might be no disunion in the body, but that all the members, equally, might care for one another; 26 so that, when one member is in pain, they will all sympathize; and if one member is exalted, all the members will be exalted. 27 Now you are the body of the Messiah, and members individually. 28 For God has placed in his assembly, first, emissaries*; after them, prophets; after them, teachers; after them, miracle workers; after them, some with the gift of healing, and helpers, and leaders, and various kinds of languages*. 29 Are they all emissaries*? Are they all prophets? Are they all teachers? Are they all miracle workers? 30 Do all of them have the gift of healing? Do they all speak with *other languages*? Or do they all interpret? 31 If you desire to emulate the superior gifts, on the other hand, I’ll show you a better way.
1 Corinthians 13: If I could speak in every language of men, and in that of the holy Messengers, and wouldnt have love in me, I would be like brass that resounds, or the cymbal that makes a noise. 2 If there should be in me the gift of prophecy, and I should understand all the mysteries, and every science; and if there should be in me all faith, so that I could move mountains, and love should be absent in me, I would be nothing. 3 If I should feed out to the destitute all I possess; and if I should give my body to be burned; and there should be no love in me, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient*, and is kind; love is not envious; love is not boisterous; it’s not inflated; 5 and does nothing that causes shame; and doesnt seek her own; it’s not passionate; and doesnt think evil; 6 doesnt rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hops all, and endures all. 8 Love will never cease. But prophesying will end; and languages* will be silent; and knowledge will vanish. 9 For we know but partially; and we prophesy but partially. 10 But when completeness comes, then that which is partial will vanish away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, and I reasoned as a child, and I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I laid aside the things of childhood. 12 And now we see, as if in a mirror, in likeness; but then face to face: now I know partially; but then I’ll know, just as I am known. 13 For these three things are abiding, faith, and hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 14: Follow after love; and be emulous of the gifts of the Spirit, and especially, that you may prophesy [1]. 2 For he who speaks in an unusual *language or dialect* [1100], speaks not to men, but to God; for no one understands what is said; yet in the spirit, he speaks a mystery. 3 But he who prophesies, speaks to men, for edification, and exhortation, and consolation. 4 he who speaks in another language, edifies himself; and he who prophesies, edifies the Assembly. 5 Now I would that you all spoke with languages, but preferably that you prophesied; for greater is he who prophesies, than he who speaks in another language, unless he interprets; and if he interprets, he edifies the Assembly. 6 Now, brethren, if I should come among you, and speak to you in other languages, what would I profit you; unless I would speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophecy, or by doctrine? 7 For even inanimate things that emit sound, whether pipe or harp, if they make no distinction between one sound and another, how will it be known, what is sung or what is harped? 8 If the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for the battle? 9 So likewise if you utter a discourse in another language, and there is no interpretation given, how will it be known what you have said? You’ll have been as if you spoke into the air. 10 Note, there are many kinds of languages in the world; and there is not one of them without meaning. 11 But if I dont know the importance of the sound, I’ll be a barbarian to the one who speaks, and the speaker will be a barbarian to me. 12 So also you, since you are emulous of the gifts of the Spirit for the edification of the assembly, seek to excel. 13 Let him that speaks in another language, pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I were to pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is without fruits. 15 Then what should I do? I’ll pray with my spirit, and will pray with my understanding; and I’ll sing with my spirit, and will sing with my understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless in the spirit, how will he who fills the place of one unlearned, say Amen, on your giving thanks; for he doesnt know what you say? 17 You bless, indeed, very well; but your neighbor is not edified. 18 I thank God, that I speak with languages more than all of you. 19 But in the Assembly, I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others, than a myriad of words in another language. 20 Brethren, dont be childish in your thoughts; but to evil things be infants; and in your thoughts be men. 21 In the Law it is written, "With a foreign language, and in another tongue, will I speak with this people; and even so also they wont listen to me, says the Lord. 22 So languages are established for a sign, not to the believers, but to those who dont believe. But prophesying is not for those who dont believe, but for they who believe. 23 If therefore the whole assembly assembles, and they all speak with languages, and unlearned people come in, or those who dont believe, wont they say: These people are crazy? 24 But if you are all prophesying, and someone unlearned or an unbeliever comes among you, he is examined* by you all, and reprimanded by you all; 25 and the secrets of his mind are laid open to him: and so he will fall face down, and worship God, and say: truly, God is in you. 26 So I say to you my brethren, that when you assemble, whichever of you has a psalm, let him speak; and whoever has a doctrine, and whoever has a revelation, and whoever has a language, and whoever has an interpretation. Let them all be for edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a language, let two speak or at most, three; and let them speak one by one; and allow someone to interpret. 28 If there is none to interpret, let him who speaks in a language, be silent in the assembly; and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 As to prophets, let two or three speak, and let the others *render judgment* [2]. 30 If to another sitting by, there should be a revelation, let the first stop speaking. 31 For you can all *speak under inspiration*, one by one; so that everyone can learn. Everyone can *give and receive consolation and encouragement* [3870]. 32 For the *rational spirit* [4151] of *inspired speakers* [1] *yields to the admonition* [5293] of other *inspired speakers*. 33 Because, God is not the author of tumult, but of peace, as in all Assemblies of the Saints. 34 Let your women be silent in the assembly: for it is not permitted for them to speak, but to be in subjection, as also the Law says. 35 If they wish to be informed on any subject, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is unbecoming for women to speak in the assembly. 36 What! was it from you that the word of God came from? Or did it reach only you? 37 If anyone among you thinks that he is a prophet, or that he is spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, as being the precepts of our Lord. 38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant. 39 so, my brethren, desire prophesying: and to speak with languages, dont prohibit these. 40 But let everything be done with decency and regularity.
1 Corinthians 15: I make known to you, brethren, the *Good News* that I preached to you, and which you received, and in which you stand, 2 and by which you have life. In what terms I preached to you, you remember; unless you have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you from the first, as I had received it; that the Messiah died because of our sins, as it is written: 4 and that he was buried and arose on the third day, as it is written: 5 and that he was seen by Cephas; and after him, by the twelve: 6 and after that, he was seen by more than five hundred brethren at once; many of who survive at the present time, and some of them sleep. 7 Subsequently to this, he was seen by James; and after him, by all the emissaries*. 8 Last of them all, I saw him, as it were by an abortion. 9 I am the least of the emissaries*; and am not worthy to be called a apostle; because I persecuted the assembly of God. 10 But by the *merciful kindness* of God, I am what I am: and his *merciful kindness*, that was in me, was not in vain; but I labored more than they all:-not I, but his *merciful kindness* that was with me. 11 Whether I, therefore, or whether they, so we preached; and so you believed. 12 If the Messiah is proclaimed, as rising from the dead; how is it that there are some among you, who say, There is no resurrection* of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection* of the dead, the Messiah also has not risen. 14 If the Messiah has not risen, our preaching is vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 We too are found false witnesses of God; for we have testified concerning God, that he raised up the Messiah, when he didnt raise him up. 16 For, if the dead wont arise, the Messiah also has not risen. 17 If the Messiah rose not, your faith is inane; and you are yet in your sins: 18 and also, doubtless, they who have fallen asleep in the Messiah, have perished. 19 If, in this life only, we have hope in the Messiah, we are the most miserable of all men. 20 But now the Messiah has risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who slept. 21 As by a man came death, so also by a man came the resurrection* of the dead. 22 For as it was by Adam, that all men die, so also by the Messiah they all live: 23 everyone in his order; the Messiah was the firstfruits; afterwards, those who are the Messiah’s, at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when he’ll have delivered up the kingdom to God the Father; when every prince, and every sovereign, and all powers will have come to naught. 25 For he is to reign, until he puts all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy, death, will be abolished. 27 For he has subjected all under his feet. But when he said, that everything is subjected to him, it is manifest that he is excepted, who subjected all to him. 28 When all are subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subject to him who subjected all to him, so that God will be all in all. 29 Otherwise, what they will do who is immersed* for the dead, if the dead dont rise? Why are they immersed* for the dead? 30 Also, And why do we stand every hour in peril? 31 I protest, my brethren, by your exultation, which is mine in our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, that I die daily. 32 If, as among men, I was thrown to wild beasts at Ephesus, what did it profit me, if the dead dont rise? "Let’s eat and drink; for tomorrow we die." 33 Dont be deceived; "Evil stories corrupt well disposed minds." 34 Let your hearts be righteously excited, but dont sin: for there are some, in who is not the love of God: it is to your shame, I say it. 35 But some one of you may say: How will the dead arise? and with what body they will come? 36 Foolish man! The seed which you sow, is not quickened, unless it dies. 37 That which you sow, you wont sow the body that is to be, but the naked kernel of wheat or barley, or of the other grains: 38 and God gives it a body, as he pleases; and to each of the grains its natural body. 39 Every body is not alike; for the body of a man is one thing, and that of a beast is another, and that of a bird is another, and that of a fish is another. 40 There are celestial fear terrestial bodies, and terrestrial bodies; but the praise of the celestial fear terrestial bodies are one, and that of the terrestrial is another. 41 The praise of the sun is one thing, and the praise of the moon is another, and the praise of the stars is another; and one star exceeds another star in glory. 42 So also in the resurrection* of the dead. They are sown in corruption, they arise without corruption: 43 they are sown in dishonor, they rise in glory: they are sown in weakness, they rise in power: 44 it is sown an animal body, it rises a spiritual body. For there is a body of the animal life, and there is a body of the spirit. 45 So also is it written: "Adam, the first man, became a living soul;" the second Adam became a quickening spirit. 46 The spiritual was not first; but the animal, and then the spiritual. 47 The first man was of dust from the earth; the second man was the Lord from heaven. 48 As he was of the dust, so also those who are of the dust; and as was he who was from heaven, so also are the heavenly. 49 As we have worn the likeness of him from the dust, so we’ll wear the likeness of him from heaven. 50 But this I say, my brethren that flesh and blood cant inherit the Kingdom of Heaven: neither does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 See, I’ll tell you a mystery; we’ll not all sleep, but we’ll all be changed. 52 Suddenly, as in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, when it sounds; and the dead will rise, without corruption; and we’ll be changed. 53 For this which is corruptible, is to put on incorruption; and that which dies, will put on immortality. 54 When this corruptible, puts on incorruption, and this that dies, immortality; then will take place the word that is written, "Death is absorbed in victory." 55 Where is your sting, O death? And where is your victory, O grave? 56 Now the sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thank God, who gives us the victory, thru our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. 58 So, my brethren and my beloved, be steadfast, and dont be vacillating; but at all times be abundant in the work of the Lord; seeing you know, that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 16: Concerning the *relief money* [3048] for the Saints, as I arranged for the Assemblies of the Galatians, so you should do as well. 2 After* [2596] *the first of the Sabbaths*, let everyone lay aside a stockpile [2343] at home, whatever he is able; so that the collecting is finished when I come. 3 Then, I will send those *you choose as being worthy* [1381], with a letter, to carry your bounty to Jerusalem. 4 If it is best that I go as well, they’ll come with me. 5 I will come to you, when I pass from Macedonia; for I am about to pass thru Macedonia. 6 Perhaps I’ll remain with you, or winter with you, so that you can accompany me, wherever I go. 7 For I dont want to see you now, just passing thru; because I hope to spend some time with you, if Yehovah permits me. 8 For I’ll remain in Ephesus until Pentecost: 9 because a great door is opened to me, which is full of occupations; and those who oppose are numerous. 10 If Timothy comes to you, see that he may be without fear among you; for he does the work of the Lord, as I do. 11 So, let no one despise him; but conduct him on in peace, that he may come to me; for I wait for him with the brethren. 12 As for Apollos, my brethren, I entreated him much to go with the brethren to you; but his inclination was not to go to you now; but when he’ll have opportunity, he will go to you. 13 Watch and stand firm in the faith, act like men, be valiant. 14 Conducted all of your affairs with love. 15 I implore you, my brethren, concerning the household of Stephanas; (for you know, that they were the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to ministering to the Saints;) 16 that you also listen to them who is such; and to every one, who labors with us and aids. 17 I rejoice at the arrival of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for they have supplied that which you were deficient in towards me. 18 They have refreshed my spirit, and yours: therefore acknowledge them who is such. 19 All the assemblies that are in Asia, salute you. Aquila and Priscilla, with the assembly in their house, salute you much in the Lord. 20 All the brethren salute you. Salute one another with a holy kiss. 21 The salutation in the handwriting of myself, Paul. 22 Whoever doesnt love our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, let him be accursed: our Lord comes. 23 The *merciful kindness* of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah be with you. 24 My love be with you all, in the Messiah, Yeshua. Amen.
End of the first letter to the Corinthians, that was written at Philippi of Macedonia, and was sent by Timothy.
